WORK SAMPLES
Below is a sampling of the various types of motion graphics work I have done and what we can create together based on the needs of your project.
In the world of environmental filmmaking, high quality map graphics are essential to delivering key concepts to the audience. Nothing brings geospatial data to life quite like an animated map. Incorporating this technique in your project will help visualize regional macroscale information in a way that is both aesthetically pleasing and educational. Highlighting geographical areas, tracing routes, and overlaying data are just a few applications of animated map making that will elevate your project to the next level.

PHOTO TREATMENT
No documentary is complete without archival photography to help illustrate the background of a given subject. Image montages are an excellent tool to retain attention by providing an alternate visual ‘relief’ from standard back to back video clips in the edit. Choices in motion driven by voice over can also be a key strategy in developing tone and pacing for a montage or image sequence. From the more basic, but still powerful pan-and-scan ‘Ken Burns effect’ style of animation to full blown hybridized image sequences, we can brainstorm creative solutions and find opportunities to work with your archival resources and elevate image sequences to the next level.

BRANDING
Animated brand assets are crucial to adding that extra level of polish if you have a brand logo and you make films or video content for the web. Whether sleek and minimal or more dynamic we can work together to create a suite of reusable branding assets for logo intros, tail slate lockups, or anything in between based on your existing static graphic design assets.

COMPOSITING
Compositing is effectively adding moving or static elements to footage in a way that places them ‘in the scene’. Common examples include screen replacements or Augmented Reality (AR) style overlays, where camera motion is tracked and elements can be added to or removed from shots depending on the needs of the scene. For example, these can be effectively used alongside drone footage to display schematic information on top of restoration sites in progress.

CHARACTER ANIMATION
Character animation can elevate your standard vector art slideshow into a full blown cartoon experience. From animating key movements and poses to full 2D model rigging, we can get your artwork up and moving around!

EXPLAINERS
Animated explainer videos are the best way to showcase your product and brand in an easily digestible format. Best when kept short and to the point, animated explainers help add a layer of professionalism that will inspire consumer confidence in your product and lead to higher levels of engagement overall. Together with your graphic designer we can outline a strategy to best showcase your product in a super sleek, high-end fashion.

ANIMATED GRAPHS
Incorporating animation into your use of graphs in a project can be a wonderfully effective way to draw attention to data in ways that a static graph cannot. By highlighting certain aspects of the graph alongside descriptive voice over you can be sure audiences are not left in the dark about the information being presented in your project.

TEAR-OUTS
‘Tear-outs’ refers to moments, usually in documentary work, in which written elements of newspapers or science papers are pulled out to highlight their significance, as if they were ‘torn out’ of the page. Often times all the necessary elements to create perfect tear-outs are already present inside the document in the form of supplementary graphics and information. This is a much more effective way to make sure focus is drawn to certain information when showing written source material.
